Watermelon history

Botanical name of watermelon, Citrullus vulgaris, is an abbreviation of citrus fruit to the color and shape of the fruit, and vulgar means common or ordinary fruit. It does not take a genius to realize that their common English name comes watermelon. The flesh of this succulent fruit is about 90 percent water.

It originated in Africa, a valuable and portable source of water for desert situations and natural water reserves had been contaminated. Watermelons were cultivated in Egypt and India date back to 2500 BC as evidenced hieroglyphics.

Use of watermelons

The most common use of watermelon is fresh melon and a slice or cut into cubes for a snack or a quick cold dessert. A line dance popular American honors watermelon watermelon called hot water. In Italy Pleasant watermelon pudding is a popular dessert usually watermelon, almonds, chocolate and cinnamon. Soft flesh of watermelon is as wonderful as ice cream and mixed fruit cups and melon. Made a favorite southern United States of pickled watermelon rind.

Watermelon is also an excellent choice for those with an artistic flair who want to make edible sculptures. The hollow carved bark makes keeping a flattering basket fruit salads and more. Russians are plentiful watermelon juice beer.
