As the perfect leek Select

Selection Leek

Leeks look like scallions on steroids! And as green onions, which are usually sold in bundles, usually about four leeks to a group. I hope that your market sold in bulk with roots intact and dark green leaves, giving them a longer life. Plastic packaging favored decay. Leeks are available year round in most markets, but prime time is from September to the end of April.

Select leeks with a clean soft white bulb, at least two to three inches white and firm, dark green with curves. The base should be at least 2.1 inches in diameter, but most are much larger, usually 1-1 / 2-1 2.2 inches. The youngest leeks, delicate flavor and texture. Locate the cylindrical and not those who are big and onion thinly. When the money starts to collect bulbous, leeks are a little too ripe.

Check the center of the leek seeds for a rod (rod drive can sometimes feel a slight pressure) and avoid it finds. Those who start with a seed rod a hard woody core. When the leek is soft at all, let it go.

Memory Leek

Leek a smell that can be absorbed by other things in the fridge to save them before cooking easily wrapped in plastic to the smell and moisture contained excreted. Do not cut or wash before storing. Keep in the drawer of your refrigerator.

According to the coolness factor when you buy, leeks can be stored between five days to two weeks. Leeks are cooked covered in the refrigerator and within a day or two.

Leek, unfortunately, is not a good candidate for freezing or canning, unless you want to use in soups or other recipes instead of a main dish. Gel tends to its baby food and gives it a bitter taste.

If you choose, leek, sliced or freeze whole lengths. Seal in airtight bags, and freeze within three months. To get the flavor, not before he again cooking thaw. Use leftover frozen within three months boiled for soup.

Try the marinated Hit Ham & amp; Switzerland ...

Preparation

The second series 9 x 13 inches (or 10 x 15 inch) baking pans with protective paper or traditional butter forms.

To prepare the marinade, fry the chopped sweet onion butter over low heat until the onion soft and translucent.

Add the brown sugar, mustard, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, and stir gently and let bubble for 3 minutes, until the sugar melts remove from the heat in the sauce .. garlic powder. Ask Leave to cool the marinade while the rollers are mounted.

Remove from the pan and packaging are not separated. With a long knife, serrated bread, cut the whole leaf rolls in half, if you connected a layer of interconnected nodes and a lower layer. Turn the layer capsules away from you with a cut so you can easily bring together in the same order.

Spread top and bottom of the pan with a thin layer of horseradish mayonnaise. Ham slices on layer, so even bottom bun cover sheet. Repeat with Swiss cheese slices in an even layer. Replace the bun tops. Cut separated between each row of rolls into individual parts.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray the pan, sprinkle with the chopped parsley. Bake marinated buns covered for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes. Roles should be caramelized and brown on the bottom at the top.

Yield: 24 servings of appetizers

Remarks: roles of ready meals. They are typically in a roll of film 12 spliced together. If you use this type (I love sweet whole wheat from King of Hawaii), you should decide in the situation, the entire leaf, horizontal mount each individually instead. Ensure separation cut through the rolls just before pouring the marinade. Feel free to use your own house yeast rolls. If you are on a budget, make the method using large hot dog buns, cut in halves or thirds. (You may need to adjust the cooking time.)

Horseradish mayonnaise is easy to make at home, but there are some decent commercial varieties for use as a shortcut. You can use the traditional mayonnaise, if you should avoid horseradish. For the ham, I have a dried tomatoes rosemary Deli ham, but feel free to use your favorite. Just make sure that it (lowered questions) into very thin slices to be cut and the use of a high quality, low moisture ham for the best results. The rolls are so good with smoke or roast turkey.

If you are unable to use poppy (which is a problem in the teeth and sometimes can lead to a false positive drug tests), you can replace the sesame or omit completely.

Hello, I'm the boss oak for About.com. Today we will learn how to cook the perfect egg.

What is a perfect hard boiled egg?

Fill the pot with cold water

The eggs are in the pan with cold water, the water must be cold. Add water 1 inch above the eggs. This makes for a perfect kitchen. Let's say the eggs to cook high heat. Once the eggs come to a good cook so what you want to do is turn off the heat.

Remove from heat and cover

Cover and let stand for exactly 12 minutes. While eggs sit do what we want to what in a large bowl with ice water, which is used to call to impact their eggs for quick cooling in the kitchen and bath ice. This will prevent over-cooking and make them much easier to peel later.

Place the eggs in an ice bath

So after sitting for 12 minutes, which will take them directly from the pot and let it sit in an ice bath. And so it is like peeling the egg. Touch to you, press the bottom. And rolls. Wrap around the cutting board and everything in its place. And right over the water. It comes so easy, so perfect, so beautiful.

And so you know that your egg is perfect. It is cut into two halves. And look at that, look at this yellow. Perfect yellow throughout. No discoloration on the sides. This is a perfect hard boiled egg.
